Our tour starts at the Parking lots of the Sankenbachvalley. The route turns off directly from the parking lot and is marked with a blue rhomb. After passing the red deer wildlife preserve the route rises gently. The Snakenbach (stream) was once used by log drivers.
After about half an hour we reach the lovely Sankenbachsee (lake): One of the five lakes witin Baiersbronn. Take your time and enjoy the silence - large findlings at the banks invitie one to sit down. The Sankenbachkesselhütte (shelter hut) is located on the west bank of the lake: An ideal spot to grill, play or just to take a rest.
The steep ascent to the impressive waterfalls starts here. Being amazed by this wonder of nature we reach the small wooden bridge above the falls. With a big wooden floodgate you can open the waterfall on your own..
The route leads along the rocks up to the Oberen Wasserfallhütte (hut). From then on we take the asphalted road for about 200 m and then turn left into a further path, which takes us to the upper planesVon dort (about 1 hour from the parking lot away).
At a trailcrossing we take the direction „Kniebis-Lamm". Soon we will reach a small asphalted road. We follow this road until the sign with the inscription „Heimatpfad" appears and tells us to turn-off right to the Ellbachseeblick.
.Now we can enjoy the nice view across the Ellbachsee (lake) to Obertal. Now we walk on a clearly marked path to Kniebis up to the former Hotel Lamm. A sign remembers us about one of the most traditional hotels at the Schwarzwald-Hochstraße (scenic road). From there on we turn left and pass the ski-centre until we reach the Dorfstraße (villagestreet) by the fett}Waldeck{fettende}. This road leads downwards, where we can see the old walls of the Kniebis-Monastery on the right handside. Behind the Gasthaus Ochsen we turn left into the Baiersbronner Sträßle. After passing the Pension Immergrün and the Schwyzer-Stübli we reach the Wanderparkplatz at the forestside. (2 hours distance from the parking lot).
Here, at the trailcrossing we take the right path going to „Freudenstadt" and „Z3". The "Z3" takes us after a short time to the 5- trail junction near to the Oberen Rotwasserhütte. The clearly marked path „Z3" then takes us inside left in direction of the Wasenhütte.
Once having reached the Wasenhütte, a sign informs us of the reconstruction after the disastrous hurricane "Lothar" in December 2000. While our view is still focussing on the Finkenberg towards Freudenstadt we choose the path which passes the hut on the left hand side. After a couple of meters we turn left again into the next path. The descent takes us straight to the Sankanbachtal (Sankenbachvalley). As sonn as we are down in the valley, we turn left along the forestside back to the starting point.
