A good than 200 kilometres long and 60 kilometres wide, the Black Forest is not only one of the most varied, but also one of the biggest and best known holiday regions in Germany. The Black Forest maids, Black Forest farms, Black Forest gateau, Bollenhut hats, cuckoo clocks - the Black Forest embodies everything that one might expect of a German picture book holiday.

Few holiday regions are as diverse as the Black Forest. Its 11,400 square kilometres in the south-west of Germany are home to a rapidly changing landscape, with forests in the north, the less dense central Black Forest, and the mountainous south that leads down to the Rhine.

Germany’s highest non-alpine mountain range comprises only around two thirds of the total surface of the holidays region Black Forest. With the lush, sprawling heights of the Baar Area in the east, the wine country to the west and the Rhine Valley to the west and the south, no matter which area you choose: Baden, Kraichgau, Ortenau, Breisgau, Tuniberg, Kaiserstuhl or Markgräflerland – every single region boasts top-quality wines.

Black Forest visitors will find rich and varied landscapes, a diverse selection of health and spa resorts, delicious regional food, cultural and architectural treasures, especially in local cities, living regional traditions and a big variety of country sports such as hiking, Nordic walking, mountain biking and cycling, horse riding and golf. The area is also excellent for families, with special facilities for younger guests in all categories of accommodation.
