The Lothar-Trail (Lotharpfad)

Dive into the nature-adventure with this trail. The rustic path leads across walkways, stairs and ladders made of wood in the middle of a forest, which has been left as it was after the hurricane.

Sturmwurf-Erlebnispfad auf dem Lotharpfad an der Schwarzwaldhochstraße in Baiersbronn im Schwarzwald

On Boxing Day 1999 hurricane "Lothar"swept 30 million cubic meters of wood within two hours to the ground, the northern Black Forest was the most affected region. What ended for the forest owners as an economic disaster, quickly became an opportunity for life to a variety of plants and animals. Even wood and storm areas nowadays, years after the storm, show new and interesting developments.

Located at the "Schwarzwaldhochstraße" (Black Forest High Road), close to the "Schliffkopf", you can watch these processes on an area as large as 10 football fields. The Lothar-Trail offers you the opportunity to dive into the nature-adventure. The rustic path leads you over bridges, stairs and ladders made of wood in the middle of a piece of forest, which hasn't been change since the hurricane. Pure nature on one kilometer! Hiking shoes are recommended on this trail.

For guided tours, queries or suggestion, the team of biologists and foresters is on the nature center at your disposal.
