The river is divided into nine sections (zones), Zone 1 begins in Obertal, Zone 9 ends in Schönmünzach.

The main part of the fish population are brown trout and grayling, which are yearly replaced as juvenils every year. In addition to that are fish species such as bullhead and brook lamprey through natural reproduction (Text: District Fisheries Association Freudenstadt e.V.)

The district angling club Freudenstadt operates the Murg and other waters and ponds. One of these ponds is located in Baiersbronn-Friedrichstal. This pond, surrounded by meadows and forests, fits harmoniously into the Forbach Valley.

Fishing permits for the Murg can be acquired in the Tourist-Information in Baiersbronn and all branches. The season runs each year from 1. April to 30. September. You must have a valid Federal fishing license and the Baiersbronn Guest Card.
